Queensland born fine artist, and self confessed graffiti ‘writer’ Lee Harnden, also known by the underground pseudonym Linz, takes his solo exhibition to Melbourne for the first time this April titled ‘A Renaissance Uprising’. Comprising of works painted with oil, acrylic and spray paint, Harnden continually blurs the lines between graffiti and fine art; feeling equally at home in front of a stretched canvas as he is painting the raw streetscapes of the Bronx with the Godfather of graffiti – Seen.
Harnden’s dogged pursuance of perfection within his various art forms has seen him travel the world extensively, looking for inspiration wherever he can find it; whether that be bustling through the crowded streets of Lima or Hong Kong, or kicking it in the art and fashion districts of Paris, Los Angeles and New York. A celebrated graffiti writer of 17 years, Harnden has been a staple member of the Ironlak Team since its inception.

'A Renaissance Uprising' is yet another evolution and continuing pursuit of perfection for Harnden, whose last sold out solo exhibition was the acclaimed 'Amongst the Wolves' shown at the Perc Tucker Gallery (www.townsville.qld.gov.au/perctucker/) in Queensland. In 'A Renaissance Uprising,’ Harnden continues his quest to partner the knowledge of the renaissance master painters, and the underground grit of graffiti culture, with his own unique style and mastery of disparate mediums.
Harnden's bold jump between the brush and the spray can is nothing short of incredible when one steps back to take a look at the scope of his pieces.
'A Renaissance Uprising' officially opens on Friday the 4th of April 2008- 7:30pm at Per Square Metre Gallery.
The exhibition runs from 02-April-13 April 2008
